pittar patter

The rain here today is torrential. Its crazy rain today. Here I am sitting at home trying to finish my thesis and bang, clap! My friend recently got married, so here are a couple of pics of us at her wedding. It was held in Sentosa and we all had a really good time. They have been dating for 10 years till they finally decided to get married... hooray!

Do you hear me

I have forgotten about this space till today, and realised it has been some time since I expressed myself.

2006 is almost over. What have I done with my life till then? Realising that I have to be more independant some times scares me. I have become too used to being part of a couple, part of a team, and being alone really freaks me out when I think about it. Imagine the nights coming home after work, with no one to talk to, to have dinners on my own, weekends by myself. I really have to start by picking up a hobby or something. Perhaps this is an opportunity, for me to pick up Salsa again or my paint brush. I have forgotten what it was like to be myself.

Ash has gone for her 2nd flu jab and was highly traumatised by it all. I feel incredibly sorry for her and actually had to step out of the vetinary when they injected her because I could not take her yowling and screaming. She actually ran off with the needle half way in her and the vet had to inject her by putting her in a cage at the end of it. It was terrible.

She is not really talking to me now and mews pitifully if you even try to prod her. I have decided to leave her alone because next week she is having her rabies jab. When she lies close to me she purrs excessively and likes sleeping on my bed all curled up like she is now. Lets hope that tommorrow is a better day for her.

So Dark the Con of Man

"We are in the middle of a war. One that has been going on forever to protect a secret so powerful that if revealed it would devastate the very foundations of mankind" - Sir Leigh Teabing

I read the Da Vinci Code some time last yr during a hot summer night in London. I was so intrigued by the book that I could not put it down at all till I completely finished reading it. The book was both gripping and clever. I also must remind viewers that the story is FICTION, so i dont understand all the contraversy going on with banning it. If you are true to what you believe and your religion, surely a book would not give you doubts and sway you?

Last night I watched the Da Vinci Code with a couple of mates. I went in to watch the movie with lowered expectations since critics have not given it very good reviews. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised. Audrey Tautou (played Sophie Neveu) was perfect in her role and it was interesting hearing her speak English for once in a movie. This movie portrays her gracefulness and the certain 'it' factor that she has due to her French heritage. Critics have said that Tom Hanks ( played Robert Langdon) and Audrey did not have chemistry in the movie, but I did not find this a problem as they did not portray them as lovers or interested in each other. To me, Tom Hanks was more like a father figure or an older brother.

I thought Paul Bettany suited the role of Silas to the T. I was very impressed with him playing Silas and his portrayal of being faithful as an Opus Dei. He was very good at the role, very intense as he should be. It was a far cry from the last role that I saw him in the movie Wimbledon!

Of course my favourite is Ian McKellen who played Sir Leigh Teabing. I have always found him a fantastic actor ( I even went to watch him in a play in London two christmases ago and he was so funny as he played a woman!). His role as Sir Leigh Teabing brought out his wittyness, I think he is best in such roles.

The only thing was since the movie was 'based on the book' it did not follow the same ending and cut out some scenes from the book. And some scenes such seemed unrealistic, such as the last scene where Tom Hanks went to the Lourve and kneeled down on the glass floor, in reality, tons of security would be on him at that very moment!

But overall, i would give the movie a 7/10 as I was impressed with the film itself being well made, with clever uses of editing. I thought it was a very good movie. I am sure other viewers would agree with me too so go watch it!
